Will 'Jalsa' beat 'Pokiri'

The film Pokiri was one of the biggest hits in the history of Indian cinema. The film broke several records set over 75 years in the Telugu cinema industry. Pokiri stars Prince 'Super Star' Mahesh Babu and Ileana in the lead roles. The superb screenplay and slick direction by Puri Jagannath and the excellent on screen chemistry between Mahesh Babu and Ileana worked wonders for the film at the box office. Mani Sarma's melodious musical score was also another big plus for the film.

On the other hand Pawan Kalyan's Jalsa was released with a lot of hype. The high level media publicity across all channels, print, electronic and outdoor meant that the film would garner record opening collections of 7.67 cr on 1st day. The film directed by Trivikram Srinivas had many star billings. The film boasts of three heroines, Ileana, Parvathi Melton and Kamailini Mukherjee. Devi Sree Prasad's music is another big asset that went into building up the hype for the film. The audio was a super hit.It remains to be seen how far Jalsa can catch the attention of the audience. The film has been released in a record 1000 theaters and the first week collections alone have already touched 21 crore. Will it cross Pokiri all together and set new record? Discuss.

Kali leads life by stealing cars and selling them in the second hand market. He also earns good name in the locality. One day, he finds Archana (Tamanna) in his stolen car. Why does she tuck in his car and how Archana finds love in Kalidasu form rest of the story?

Analysis

Nagarjuna's another nephew Sushanth makes debut with this film. For a debutant, it is a decent project with time-tested formula of revenge and sentiment drama. Sushanth makes confident entry.
Although the film is just an okay, you can excuse faults for a debutante's movie. Director Ravi Charan Reddy has played safe game by choosing a very mass masala story that gives him chance to project the hero as down to earth - a trick that has been played several times in South Indian films. The newcomer seems to be more suitable for such characters too than lovestories.

Performances
Sushanth is good for his debut movie. He has shown ease in dance. He has long way to go and needs to work more on expressions and diction. Tamanna looks very glamorous. She has gone for complete makeover from her Happy Days, she indulges in skin show. Suneel's presence lifts up the first half. Jayasudha is okay. Vinod Kumar is not that effective as villain but Ajay does his role effortlessly. Kanal Kannan's fights are worth mentioning. Music by Chakri is mediocre.

Bottom-line!

Sushanth makes decent debut. A very formulaic film but okay for a debutante movie.

'Bhale Dongalu' Review

Film: Bhaledongalu
Cast: Jagapathi Babu,Tarun, Ileana,Charmee (in an item song), Pradeep Rawat, Brahmanandam, Dharmavarapu and others
Dialogues: Abburi Ravi
Music: K M Radhakrishnan
Editing: Marthand K Venkatesh
Produced by: Shakamuri Panduranga Rao
Presented by: Bellamkonda Suresh
Screenplay and directed by: K Vijayabhaskar
Release Date: April 11, 2008

What's it about!

Ramu alias Romeo (Tarun) and Jyothi aka Juliet (Ileana) have big dreams. To fulfill their dreams, they run away from their - Juliet to become a model and Romeo to turn entrepreneur. They meet on a train and bond together. As their hopes shatter, they start conning people. Now, enters DCP Yugandhar (Jagapathiu Babu) to catch the pretty thieves. The rest of the movie moves on predictable track.

Analysis

Director Vijayabhaskar freemakes super hit, Bunty Aur Babli, as Bhale Dongalu. Bunty Aur Babli itself was blatant copy of Bonny and Clyde (Hollywood). Despite Tarun and Ileana try to be funny with their antics, Bhale Dongalu lacks the punch. It offers some entertainment in fragments but on the whole it is a damp squib.

What worked in Bunty Aur Babli and What not in Bhale Dongalu? Well, music played key role in the success of the former. In fact, Kaj Ra Re song shot on Aishwarya Rai was a sensation nationwide. Music and the towering presence of Amitabh Bachchan were the prime factors that made the film a big hit. In the case of Bhale Dongalu, the less said about the music the better. It would better to compare Jagapathi Babu with Big B. And once again, the film proves that so-called K Vijayabhaskar can’t create impact without Trivikram.

The first half is big bore. Only the second half has some lighter moments.

Performances

Tarun does his best to lift the film. He dons various getups effortlessly. Ileana looks beautiful. Jagapathi Babu is a miscast. Charmee's item song and Radha Krishna's dull songs (lifted from recent Hindi songs) are best avoided. Comedy between Dharmavarapu and Brahmanandam is good. Editing (Marthand) and dialogues (Abburi) are okay.

Bottom-line!

Bhaledongalu is a damp squib. However hard Tarun and Ileana try to lift the film, the film doesn't appeal. Big Bore.

Rating: 2/5

'Sawaal' movie Review

Cast: Bharath, Suhani, Sayaji shinde, Dr.Brahmanandham, Kovai Sarala, Ms Narayana, Raghu Babu, Ali and others.
Direction: B. Jaya
Music: Jessie Gift

‘Sawaal’ opens up on a good note, but its sluggish second half and the climax makes it a boring flick which is not at all a worth to watch. This film is directed by a woman director named Jaya, who gives her 100 % to the film, but still the story line falls flat at the end.
Story:
Tirupathi (Bharath) is an orphan boy who is raised in a slum which has some kind hearted dwellers in it. The hero makes a living by selling the movie tickets in black and the sequence of selling the movie tickets looks realistic. Tirupathi is a kind hearted guy, but turns out against evil in a violent way. Seeing Tirupathi’s sincerity, Shayaji Shinde, who plays the role of a police officer in this film hires him as a police informer and finds out the drug peddlers, cheap liquor brewers and fake currency note dealers prevailing in the society and in the slum. Sayaji in an incident realizes that all these crimes are shielded by a Minister and tries to corner him.
Suhani, who plays the role of a spoilt and short tempered girl, is introduced to the audience. Fortunately, she hails from a family with a strong financial background. Incidentally, the hero Tirupathi and Suhani meet under some unpleasant circumstances and start to hate each other terribly
Meanwhile, Shayaji gets a promotion as an Assistant commissioner of Police and gives a friend’s party in which Tirupathi is also invited. However, under the influence of alcohol, Sayaji challenges the hero that an uneducated guy like him who is under the poverty line cannot win the heart of a high class girl. Adding to this Sayaji also challenges Tirupathi to make his daughter say “I Love You” in a span of 30 days and if Tirupathi succeeds he will get a gift of 10 lakhs.
Tirupathi accepts his challenge which is the title of the film SAWAAL. To the surprise of Tirupathi, the girl is none other than the short tempered and ill mannered girl Suhani. The rest of the story is how the hero wins Suhani’s heart? And how they fall in love?
But all is not over when Suhani proposes to Bharath, the director drags in the role of the corrupt minister who is a master of all illegal activities and another Sawaal starts between the hero and the villain.
Finally, at last the film ends on a happy note and the hero wins 10 lakhs cash and the heart of Suhani.
On the whole this film will just live up to 2 weeks and then it will fade as time passes. But it is sure to get the investments to the producer.

'Pawan Kalyan Jalsa Review'

Story:
Sanjay sahu(Pawan Kalyan) is a happy go lucky guy who is addicted to alchohol&studies(done 3P.Gs and studying fourth !).He is in love with Indu(Kamalinee Mukherjee)and expresses his intension to marry her to her Police dad Rammohan reddy(Prakash Raj)and he bluntly rejects Sanjay and marry her to some other guy.Exactly after one year he comes across another girl Bhagyamati(Ileana)and falls in love with her.He goes to her dad with a marriage proposal and her dad is none other than Rammohan Reddy and he rejects Sanjay sahu once again !At the same time Factionist Damodar Reddy makes attempt to kill Sanjay Sahu.
What's Sanjay Sahu's past,Why he has a rivalry with Damodar Reddy and How he marry his love of life forms rest of the story.
Highlights:
There are highest expectations on Jalsa right from the day of announcement of this film in the combination of Pawan Kalyan&Trivikram. They reached many of the expectations and falls short of some.
After Khushi Jalsa is undisputedly best film for Pawan Kalyan. It's a tailor made charecter that suits only for Pawan Kalyan and Pawan Kalyan's performance is at his best.Trivikram Srinivas did excellent job as a dialogue writer and his taking is of top class.Comedy, charecterisation are superb.Ileana is cute and for the first time in her career she acted very well with wonderful expressions.Music(Devi sri Prasad)just like any other film of Trivikram ,Sunil&Brahmanandam has their share in laughs.
Side lights:
First half is very good.Second half is ok.Though there is a fair amount of comedy in the second half you feel some thing is missing and that some thing is a convincing plot.
Though he has plenty of time(3hr10mins)Trivikram failed to narrate the flashback&villain's vengence properly& convincingly. Some times Dialogue writer dominates the director in Trivikram and you can feel the distortion.
and Yes,it's a bit lengthy,the movie runs for almost 3hour 10mins.

Etc.,Etc.,

Mahesh babu did voice over.

Public Talk: Good entertainer,Worth watching

Industry Talk:Pawan Kalyan fans karuvu teeripoyindhi,An enjoyable movie for them! The movie goes well with youth&family audience.Has all the chances to become a Superhit at Boxoffice.unconvincing plot in the Second half&Length might batter the range somewhat.
